The Company
The requesting company is a South African owned company, established in 1952 after it was taken over by the current owner in 2013. The company produces superior quality Belgian reciped chocolate confectionery for the discerning Hospitality, Corporate and Private clients alike.
The focus of the current owner is to ensure that there is a viable and sustainable business model in place that will enable the expansion of the business to service different industries as the supplier of choice. This entailed ensuring a smooth transition from the previous owners, formalizing the company along corporate principles and sound business practices.
There is immense potential for the business across three sectors namely tourism, retail and corporate companies alike and each of them are seeking the following:
Considering the requirements for Cocoa farming and the climatic conditions within South Africa, it is amazing that cocoa farming has not been undertaken to date. This is primarily due to a focus on peripheral issues around ownership and re-distribution rather than expanding and utilizing fertile soil to expand the range of products.
This proposal is multi-faceted and has the following objectives:
The funding for such a multi-faceted project that will enable the company to become the first independently owned privately owned seedling to bar chocolate manufacturer in Southern Africa. To meet this objective the funding requirement is intense but the benefit
will outweigh the costs associated with such an initiative. We need to own our own assets including the property for the farm and the
manufacturing facilities due to its high capital investment requirement to get the facilities to world class standards including but not limited to IS 22000.
The project offers various possibilities for phased funding. For example;
1. In addition to the current situation an additional 30 to 220 jobs will be created, once fully implemented,
2. Recent graduates and in service trainees will be used to reduce the operating costs whilst training the individuals,
3. The focus will be on a down scaled chocolate manufacturing and grow over time,
4. The ownership structure will not have an employee share scheme nor education trust for now until we ready the funding and become fully established,
5. The farming, academy and direct business activities will also be put on hold
The chocolate manufacturing can generate funds almost immediately as the farm will require 3 years to start generating an income.

There is immense potential for the business across three sectors namely tourism, retail and corporate companies alike and each of them are seeking the following:
- Sustainable independent businesses as suppliers;
- Focus on economic transformation (black ownership, sustainable job creation, skills development);
- Focus on local products (manufactured);
- Customised products to suit their individual brand needs;
- Focus on small to medium enterprises; and
- Companies compliant with the relevant Labour and Tax regulations of the country.
- The establishment of a 15ha Cocoa farm (to eventually supply the chocolate manufacturing) with an Academy for training and development purposes for the local community to become Cocoa farmers themselves;
- The establishment of a fully-fledged bean to bar chocolate manufacturing facility that is ISO 22000 accredited; and
- The rollout of the owned retail stores and the identified independent store in store partners.
