Executive summary
The promoter is a duly registered limited liability company (est. 2012) providing water and sanitation solutions in Malawi. The water and waste sector has traditionally been the purview of the government and Non-profit Non State Actors, being mainly Non Governmental Organizations. Although 33% of Malawi's surface consists of water, the water availability always has remained a challenge to both urban and rural dwellers. This problem is more acute in rural areas where water is only available through open wells, boreholes, rivers and lakes. Almost invariably this water is contaminated with all kinds of pathogens as it is consumed without being treated. This translates into all kinds of water borne diseases which has a negative impact on the development and the health of the population, especially children.
Additionally waste management, both wastewater and solid waste, is only available on a very limited scale in the cities being executed by city councils which can hardly cope. All 4 major sewerage and industrial wastewater plants in Blantyre broke down about 6 years ago. As a result raw sewage is released into surface water.
Until 2013 Industrial water treatment systems including boilers and cooling towers were mostly provided by a foreign organisation that withdrew from the market in that year. The latter creating a viable opportunity for a lucrative business.
The promoter's business plan seeks to justify this assertion while at the same time explaining the need for restructuring and recapitalizing the company.
